Hard to pass up on the small bucks.

Does anyone else have a really hard time passing up on the smaller bucks? I know I do. That is something I am going to change this year. But around these parts its hard to pass them up because you know the next person who sees it will more then likely harvest the deer. I want to start hunting the larger deer so this year every time a small buck comes out of the wood work I'm just going have to close my eyes I guess, lol. I am one who believes in doe management, I try to take at least 3 doe a year. If you every hunt down at the refuge in Spavinaw the guy who runs the place ask you to take a doe every time he sees you. I shot a little 6 point out there last year and he kinda got mad. I see his point but it all goes back to passing the small ones up, it is just hard for me.

If I see a deer that is deformed or sickly looking Ill harvest it for the freeze for sure! Nothing goes to waste. One day ill learn to make some knives from antlers.

I mainly hunt for meat. I will admit a nice 14 point hanging on the wall would not bother me, but I like free food.

I like to make jerky. Have you ever had smoked venison? Man its good.

Yes, I smoke my jerky too, thats how I dry it out.
